Murcia won their first game of the season, beating Albacete 1-0 in the battle between the newly promoted sides. Ex Rayo Vallecano midfielder Michel got the only goal from a well struck free kick in the sixth minute, and after that the home side kept control. Both David Karanka and Luis García had chances either side of half time to increase the lead, as did substitute Riki later on, but they couldn't beat an excellent Carlos Roa. But the visitors hardly managed a shot on target all match, and they ended the weekend still in next to bottom place. The downside for Murcia though were injuries to Carreras, Luis García and particularly Cuadrado, who was rushed to hospital after being knocked unconscious and swallowing his tongue in a clash of heads with an opposing striker Mikel in the second half.
