The bottom of the table clash between Espanyol and Málaga ended with a win for the visitors, leaving Javier Clemente's side languishing down in last place. It was sweet revenge for visiting manager Juande Ramos, who had been involved in a long legal battle with the Catalan club after being fired early last season when the team were in a similar position in the league to the one they are in now.

With so much at stake, both sides started off gingerly. The visitors were looking better than their opponents though, and it was no surprise when Duda cleverly stepped over a long pass allowing Gato Romero time to slide the ball past Lemmens for the opening goal.

At half time there were some boos and whistles from the home crowd, and Clemente made a double change, bringing on an extra forward Raúl Molina to join the solitary Tamudo. The move paid off, and shortly before the hour mark Tamudo got on the end of Marc Bertán's cross to head the equaliser past Arnau.

For a few minutes things look rosier for the home side, with Maxi and substitute Jordi Cruyff both going close. Wome had to clear off the line from Juan Rodríguez at the other end, but Tamudo almost settled when he shot against the crossbar.

But with the game coming to an end, Málaga's new striker Salva took advantage of slack defending to score his first goal in over a year. Juande delighted in rubbing it in during the post-match press conference, and now it is Clemente who is under pressure to produce results.
