Deportivo hold on to first
place after beating Sevilla 1-2, their third victory in a row. The Galicians
went close to scoring early on with efforts from Pandiani (replacing Diego
Tristán up front) and Scaloni, but Sevilla felt hard done by when
referee Rubinos Pérez awarded a penalty after Naybet brought down
Darío Silva, but changed his mind and gave a corner after consulting
with his linesman. Television pictures did show though that the decision was
right in the end as the defender had played the ball.
Shortly before half time
though Depor took the lead on a rapid breakaway, Luque's cross from the left
wing finding Pandiani for him to score his third in as many matches. However
six minutes after the restart Darío Silva made it all square with a
spectacular shot from a tight angle, his first goal for his new club. David and
substitute Antoñito could both have put the locals in front, but in the
end it was Diego Tristán who came on to get the winner from Fran's
cross, the Sevilla born striker not celebrating his goal out of respect for his
old club. The visitors ended the game with ten men after Héctor was sent
off for a foul on Reyes, and Darío Silva tested Molina from the
resulting free kick. But Depor were the victors, and go on to their midweek
Champions League match at Athens in top form. |
