Burgos beat
Zamora 2-1 in the only game brought forward to Friday night. Neither
side had anything to play for in this derby game, and it was an open game of
football. The home side went in front early in the second half through Juanjo,
and although Nacho equalised a few minutes later, Soláun hit the winner
in injury time. (20.06.03)
Algeciras became the
first team to win promotion after holding their closest rivals Athletic
Bilbao B to a 0-0 draw in their group B game on Saturday night. The South
coast side had not been in the second division A for 19 years, and in that time
had dropped as low as the "regional preferente" leagues after failing to pay
their debts. Once again it was a boring game though, with only one real chance
for either side in the first half. The locals were reduced to ten men when
Aitor was sent off early in the second half, but held on to keep up their fifth
clean sheet in a row in the play-offs.
Cádiz threw
away a chance to join Algeciras after being held to a 0-0 draw by
Universidad Las Palmas in their group A game, and now have to at least
get a point in the reverse leg next weekend to be sure of going up. Despite the
urging on of 20,000 fans they were unable to beat visiting keeper Ibrahim, and
even when Soccorro and then Ojeda were sent off leaving the Canary Islanders
with nine men they still couldn't score.
Thankfully for Cádiz,
their only rivals Barcelona B were being beaten 4-3 at the same time by
Logroñes. The side from La Rioja were two goals up through
Paulino in the first half hour, and although Sergio García pulled one
back, Padrita restored the two goal lead after the restart. The Catalans
appeared to have saved a point with goals from Trashorras and David
Sánchez near the end, but an injury time penalty from Morales after Dani
Tortolero was sent off for handling in the area gave the locals the three
points. Logroñes keeper Javi Fernández had to be rushed to
hospital after swallowing his tongue late in the game.
A three way battle for the
one promotion spot in group C, with one point separating Gramanet,
Real Unión and Málaga B. The first two met in Santa Coloma
de Gramanet, with the locals running out 2-0 winners to extend their winning
run to three games. Both goals came in the second half, Roberto opening the
scoring twenty minutes from the end after a defensive mistake and Caballero
finishing things off in injury time. The two teams meet again in Irún
next week, with the winner assured of promotion.
Málaga B could
still spoil the show though after they won 0-4 against an unmotivated
Lanzarote. Adam and Juan Rodríguez put the visitors two up by
half time, and Geijo and Roberto Merino added two more after the break for the
final result. The youngsters now have to win the reverse leg next week and hope
for a draw in the other match to win promotion only five years after their
first team did the same.
Ciudad de Murcia got
the edge over their rivals Castellón after they held them to a
0-0 draw in their own stadium in front of a 15,000 capacity crowd. Both teams
came in to the match with ten points from their four games, with the
head-to-head winner over this and the next round of matches to go up. It was a
hard game though, with 13 yellow cards and two reds, visiting defender
Iñaki Bea getting his marching orders late in the first half and
Castellón substitute Juan Navarro following him near the end.
Lots of goals in the other
group D match though, with Pontevedra beating Barakaldo 3-4 With
nothing to play for the two sides put on a display of attacking football. A
Javi Rodríguez hat-trick in the first hour helped the visitors to a 1-3
lead, but the Basques fought back and almost saved a point in the end.
