Real Unión
beat Lanzarote 3-0, their third win out of three group C games, and are
well on their way to promotion. The Irún based side were held by the
Canary Islanders during a boring first half, but after a brief stoppage for a
floodlight failure they came out and scored three times in the last twenty
minutes of the game, Sergio Francisco scoring twice and Edu Roldán
getting an injury time third. (07.06.03)
Barcelona B fought
their way back into the reckoning for promotion with a 3-1 win over group
leaders Cádiz. The 7,000 crowd was swelled by some 4,000 visiting
supporters after they won their first two games, but this time their luck was
out as Sergio García and then Nano scored within a minute of each other
with only a quarter of an hour gone. Ros turned Dani Navarrete's free kick into
his own net a few minutes later, but Sergio García got his second of the
night early in the second half to give his side their first victory in the
play-offs.
Cádiz still top group
A though after Logroñes beat Universidad Las Palmas 1-0 in
the other match. The team from La Rioja fired their manager last week after
their second defeat in a row, but new man Abadia restored their confidence with
this win. The only goal came from the penalty spot twenty minutes from the end,
Morales converting the kick to keep his side in the promotion race.
Controversy at the end of
the group B game between Zamora and Algeciras, where visiting
keeper Iñaki was viciously attacked by local fans as he went to greet
his mother in the crowd after his side's 0-1 victory. The incident spoilt the
celebrations for the South coast side, who won the game thanks to an Aitor
Santos goal midway through the first half. It was only their second goal in
three games, but they top the group with seven points having not let a goal in
to date.
Burgos were
surprisingly beaten 0-1 by Athletic Bilbao B in the other group B game,
and they lose ground on their rivals. The locals played their worst game of the
play-offs though and hardly had a shot at goal during the 90 minutes. The
Basques recorded their first victory thanks to an Aduriz goal six minutes from
the end, leaving the group wide open at the half-way mark.
Gramanet kept
themselves in the running with their first win in group C, a 2-0 victory over
Málaga B. The visitors were at a disadvantage from early on when
Merino was sent off, and the Catalans scored twice in the five minute run up to
half time through Xavi Jiménez and Cavallero. Málaga B played the
last quarter of an hour with nine men after Rodríguez was shown a second
yellow card.
A two horse race in group D,
where Ciudad de Murcia and Castellón are neck and neck on seven points
after three games. A lively game in the Condomina stadium, where Ciudad de
Murcia beat Barakaldo 1-0 to record their eleventh home victory in a
row. The visitors had the best of the first half, but the hosts came back after
the break and Iñaki Bea headed home Aguilar's corner on the hour mark to
give his side the win.
Castellón beat
Pontevedra 2-0 to set up an interesting run-in to the end of the
competition. The hero was once again veteran striker Salillas, who scored his
side's second goal only six seconds after coming on as substitute a quarter of
an hour from the end. Quero had given the East coast side the lead shortly
before half time. Salillas will be missing from the next match though after
picking up a second booking in the last minute. (08.06.03) |
