Four games were brought
forward to Friday night this week, starting with the group A game between
Universidad Las Palmas and Logroñes which the Canary
Islanders won 2-0. Both goals came from the penalty spot in the second half,
Alexis converting the first on the hour mark and Jonathan the second right at
the end. The visitors ended with nine men after Alex Fernández and
Paulino were sent off.
Burgos head up group
B pending Sunday's game after coming from behind to beat Athletic Bilbao
B 1-2. 8,000 fans turned up at the San Mamés stadium to see their
reserve side take the lead through Azkorra half an hour in, but Lucio headed an
equaliser before the interval and Solaun scored the winner in the last minute.
Málaga B got
their first points on the board with a 1-0 win against Gramanet in their
group C game. The Andalucians took the lead with a cross-come-shot from Juan
Rodríguez in only the second minute of the game, and almost went further
ahead when the same player hit the bar midway through the first half. The
Catalans have only picked up one point from their first two games, and are
already struggling.
Castellón came
back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Pontevedra and lead group D.
Diego Castro and Manu Busto put the Gallicians ahead with goals late in the
first half, but the visitors brought on veteran striker Salillas soon after the
restart and within five minutes he had levelled the scores, the first from
Quero's cross and the second from the penalty spot. (30.05.03)
An injury time goal from ex
Racing Ferrol striker Fran Nogueira was enough to save a point for Ciudad de
Murcia in a 2-2 draw at Barakaldo. The home side were trying for the
eighth time to win promotion in the play-offs, and they took the lead through
Arregi before the break. Alexandre equalised for the visitors early in the
second half, but Josu Iglesias restored the lead and although they had Etxabe
sent off, it looked as if the Basques were in line for their first win until
Nogueira struck. (31.05.03)
Cádiz beat
Barcelona B 2-0 to make it two wins out of two, and are well on the way
to a return to second division. There were some 15,000 fans in the Ramón
de Carranza stadium to watch their side take the lead through Israel in the
first half of this group A match. And they were delighted when Paz put the
result beyond doubt from the penalty spot near the end after Rodri had been
sent off for stopping the ball entering the net with his arm.
Algeciras beat
Zamora 1-0 in their group B game on Sunday, their first three points the
play-offs. The only goal came from Aitor Santos a quarter of an hour from the
end, enough to beat a defensive opponent who had apparently come to the South
coast looking for a draw.
Real Unión top
group C after a 1-2 win at Lanzarote, and they have maximum points from
their first two games. Iriarte put them two ahead with a penalty either side of
half time, but then got himself sent off with twenty minutes to go. The Canary
Islanders pulled one back through Santaella in the last minute, but it was not
enough. (01.06.03) |
