The new-look
Córdoba won their second game in a row, beating Zaragoza
2-1 on Saturday evening to move away from the bottom of the table. With eight
of their new signings in the starting line up and two more on the bench, they
matched the second division's promotion favourites and were unlucky not to be
given a first half penalty when Serban was brought down by Kolmjenovic. The
Andalucians took the lead in the second half when Moisés headed on a
Serban free kick, but right from the kick off the visitors equalised, Juanele
bundling the ball in to the net after Jauregui saved from Galletti. However
Moisés scored an injury time header from Ramzi's corner to give Zaragoza
their first defeat in seven games.
Las Palmas captain
Orlando withdrew his claim against the club and returned to lead the side to a
1-2 victory over struggling Racing Ferrol. The veteran striker put his
team into the lead in the sixth minute, and scored the winning goal in the
second half after Cuéllar had equalised for the Gallicians. The result
takes the Canary Island side back up to eighth in the table, and leaves their
opponents in deeper trouble after ten games without a win. (08.02.03)
Levante moved level
with leaders Murcia after beating Getafe 1-0 on Sunday lunchtime. They
only managed it though thanks to a dubious injury time penalty from Amato after
the referee ruled that Congo had been brought down by Txema in the area. The
visitors had caused problems for the Valencia based side early on, with
Rubén Reyes testing Rafa and Alberto shooting just wide. However Pindado
saved well from Félix and Jofre either side of half time, and Getafe had
to defend for the last twenty minutes after Nano was sent off, leaving them
with ten men.
Xerez finally
recorded their first win at the Chapín stadium since their return three
months ago, beating Elche 2-1. Either side could have scored in the
first half hour before Zárate finally put the home side ahead, winning
the ball in midfield and running on to beat Aizkorreta. By now the Andalucians
were taking control, and Zárate set up Calle for him to head a second
goal after the break. Elche had a chance to get back in the game though when
Sergio Santamaría was brought down in the area, but Meca struck his kick
against the post. He did make up for it with a goal two minutes from the end,
but it was too late and Xerez move three points above them in the table to
fifth.
The third game Sunday midday
was at Leganés, where Badajoz ended the home side's ten
game unbeaten run with a 1-3 victory. Mantecón set up the first goal for
Nene in the fifth minute, and Xavi Moro made it two later in the first half
with a little help from Fede Bahón's leg. Lawal pulled one back after
the break, but with the home side pushing for the equaliser, Zé
Tó scored a third goal for the Extremadurans on a rapid counterattack.
The win takes Badajoz back out of the bottom four to sixteenth place.
Leaders Murcia were
surprised at home by bottom club Oviedo, who beat them 0-1 on Sunday
evening to keep their survival hopes alive. David Vidal's side dominated the
first half, but were unable to find a way past keeper Jonathan who saved
several shots, in particular from David Karanka. Vicente brought on Idiakez
after the break, and the ex Real Sociedad midfielder scored only goal of the
game with a long shot a quarter of an hour from the end. The win takes the
Asturians to within three points of safety, although Córdoba's victory
means they are still bottom of the table. Murcia stay in first place, just
ahead of Levante on goal difference, but now only one point separates the top
three sides.
Albacete moved to
within two points of the promotion spots after beating Terrassa 1-0 The
only goal came from the second division's top scorer Jesús Perera in the
fourth minute after new signing Jandro set him up, the striker's twelfth of the
season in the league. Roa had to make a couple of good saves to preserve the
lead and Héctor hit the bar for the visitors with a well struck free
kick before the break. However Basti should have scored a second for the locals
when he shot wide with the goal at his mercy in the final minutes, and when
David Sánchez was sent off for the Catalans near the end the game was
over..
Poli Ejido move up to
sixth despite drawing 0-0 against Eibar. it was a dull match, with the
visitors putting up their usual defensive wall, and the real first shot at goal
did not come until the second half when visiting keeper Moso cleared off the
line from Cañas. The introduction of José Manuel improved things,
but Eibar held on to take a valuable point which nevertheless did not prevent
them from slipping down into the bottom four.
Numancia beat
Sporting Gijon 1-2 in a bad tempered match to move away from the
relegation spots. All three goals came in the first half, with Fagiani opening
the scoring for the visitors with a free kick, Villa equalising from the
penalty spot after the referee ruled that Molina had fouled Lozano, and Aranda
restoring the lead on the stroke of half time following a corner. The game
disintegrated after the break, with Kome and Ojeda both being sent off for the
Soria based side, and the referee had to stop the game for seven minutes after
players and fans battled on the pitch. With metal bars and even a knife thrown
onto the field of play, Sporting could be facing a ground closure.
Salamanca's
Raúl Sánchez won himself a trip to the Caribbean for scoring his
side's first goal in over two months against Almería. The club's
president had offered the prize in a desperate move to break the goal drought,
and he was rewarded when Sánchez latched on to Roberto's pass to score
midway through the first half. The shock was too much for them though, and
Francisco equalised almost immediately for the visitors. But Roberto scored a
second just before the break to give his side their first win since early
December.
Tenerife had no
problems scoring though; they beat Compostela 5-1 to send their
opponents to the brink of the drop zone. Bruno Marioni started things off with
only half a minute on the clock, but Maikel equalised a few minutes later to
take the sides in at the break all square. However the Canary Islanders scored
four more after the break with strikes from Marioni, Jordi and two from
Paunovic to round off their best result of the season. Keeper Aragoneses made
his comeback in the second half, replacing the injured Valerio for the home
side. |
