An injury time goal by Calle
gave Xerez a narrow 1-0 victory over Albacete which takes them
two points clear at the top of the table. The visitors played almost three
quarters of the match with ten men after their Argentine international keeper
Roa was sent off after clashing with Pineda. Even so honours were even right up
to the last minute, with the home side's Dani Pendín and Musa testing
substitute keeper Cano and Munteanu brushing the woodwork twice for the
visitors.
Terrassa missed out
on the chance to join Xerez at the top of the table after drawing 1-1 at home
to Levante on Sunday lunchtime. Keko gave the Catalans an early lead,
heading home a cross from Juan Carlos, and had a second goal incorrectly
disallowed for offside before the break. The visitors were reduced to ten men
in the second half when Mijatovic was shown a rigorous red card for a supposed
retaliation on Rubén, but with the game in injury time they levelled the
scores when Félix connected with a Limones corner.
Murcia held on to
third place after drawing 1-1 at Eibar. The antics of the two eccentric
managers Blas Ziarreta and David Vidal were more interesting than the football
in the first half, but things livened up after the break when Miguel put the
Basques ahead with a shot in off the bar. The visitors equalised through Maciel
though eight minutes later to maintain their unbeaten record.
Las Palmas put their
financial difficulties behind them to beat Oviedo 2-0 on Saturday night.
The players had threatened to take action after failing to collect their pay,
but in the end they put in a competent performance against another side with
economic problems. Team captain Orlando poked home the first goal before the
break after the defence failed to clear a cross in from the right, and the
latest of a long line of talented youngsters Pedro Vega rattled home a late
second from Rubén's pass.
Two second half goals from
Borja against Compostela gave Getafe their second victory of the
season. The Madrid based side were unable to beat the defensive wall set up by
the Gallicians in the first forty-five minutes, but eventually Craioveanu set
up the young striker to beat Oliver after the break. The visitors had to chance
to equalise when Maikel missed a penalty, but Borja finished things off with a
second goal three minutes before full time.
Zaragoza have yet to
get their promotion drive under way, and once again they were held to a 2-2
draw by Racing Ferrol despite taking the lead twice. Toledo had a goal
disallowed before Drulic gave them the lead on the quarter hour mark. However
Cuéllar equalised, following up after Lainez saved a Samir penalty, and
the referee awarded two more penalties later on which Soriano and then David
Pérez converted.
Elche did get their
first win of the season though, 3-0 over Poli Ejido, to move out of the
bottom four. All three goals came in the second half, with Meca opening the
scoring just after the interval. Poli went close to levelling, but Serrano made
it two from Melgar's pass ten minutes from the end and then Nino added a third
in the last minute to take them to within a point of their opponents.
Numancia beat
struggling Salamanca thanks to a late first half penalty from Patrick
Suffo after the referee ruled that Kome had been fouled. The Soria based side
had gone close to scoring earlier on through Pacheta and Suffo, although the
visitors could have taken the lead themselves when Roberto and Pedro were
unable to convert their chances. The result leaves the visitors down just a
place above the bottom four, and manager Balta could now be in trouble.
So too could Sporting
Gijon manager Pepe Acebal after his side only drew 1-1 at home to
Leganés. At least they got their first goal of the season, Manel
scoring on the half hour mark from Ismael's pass to put them in front. Villa
made it all square though before half time, and the home fans booed off their
players in the end. The Asturians are now third from bottom, a place below
their neighbours Oviedo.
Portugal's Conhé is
currently in charge of Badajoz, at least for the time being, but without
the necessary licence he had to direct proceedings from a platform set up just
off the pitch. His side recorded their second win in a row though, beating
Córdoba 2-0 to lcimb up to mid-table. Both goals came from shots
outside the area in the first half, with Nené getting the first and
Molist topping his goal with an even better second. The visitors played all the
second half with ten men after Sandro picked up two bookings before the break,
and have now lost their last three games.
A last minute goal from
Paunovic gave Tenerife a 1-1 draw and a point at bottom club
Almería. Juanlu had given the home side the lead just before half
time after a good run by Francisco laid the ball on a plate for him, but three
minutes from the end the home side were reduced to ten men when Cervián
picked up a second booking. Even so the local fans were starting to celebrate
their first victory of the season when the Yugoslav scored with a free kick
from the edge of the area. |
