The first division resumed
after a two week lay off for international games, but with most kick off times
synchronized for nine o'clock on Sunday night, only one game with nothing at
stake was scheduled for Saturday evening. That was the match between Valladolid
and already relegated Rayo Vallecano, where the home side ran out 2-0 winners.
The game got off to a lively
start, with Chema having a penalty appeal turned down in the opening minutes
and Bizzarri saving from Pablo Sanz at the other end. But the intense heat took
it's toll, and the game slowed down as the clock ran on. Moré made a
couple of changes at the break though, one of which was the introduction of his
own son Javier who was making his home debut, and a few minutes later Aganzo
took advantage of a static defence to score.
Bolo missed an opportunity
to level the game a few minutes later when he dallied too long on the ball, but
ten minutes from the end Antonio López put the result beyond doubt from
the penalty spot after Mauro tripped Oscar González in the area. The
home fans left the stadium knowing that, whoever will be in their team next
season (several players are expected to leave), they will still be in the top
flight. Rayo though go on to an uncertain future in the second division, and
will almost certainly end an unhappy season in last place. |
