Espanyol saved a point in a
1-1 draw at Betis thanks to a late equaliser from Domoraud and have now gone
nine games without defeat. It was a game in which both sides cancelled each
other out, and apart from an Alex Fernández effort in the fifth minute
which Prats turned away for a corner, neither side had a shot on target in the
first half hour. Assunçao eventually put Toni to the test with a free
kick, and a few minutes later Betis took the lead, Fernando getting on the end
of Joaquín's high cross to score on the far post.
Just before half time
referee Turienzo Alvarez turned down appeals for a penalty when Jarque brought
down Joaquín, and after the restart Toni made important saves from
Joaquín and Dani. But with the game coming to an end Soldevilla headed
back a cross from substitute Martín Posse, and there was Domoraud to
turn the ball in to the net to make it all square. Betis felt they were hard
done by, but they could even have lost it right at the end when Maxi broke free
and Prats had to save the day. The Andalucians lost the chance to move back
into sixth place, and although only a point away from the current incumbents
Mallorca they are now tenth. Espanyol move three points clear of the drop zone,
still not safe but well on their way. |
