Sevilla's defeat earlier in the evening meant that the winner of the game between their city neighbours Betis and Atlético Madrid would move in to the sixth spot. However in the end they drew 2-2, letting the Andalucians off the hook for another week at least. In the absence of the injured Fernando Torres, Luis García played a more central attacking role, with Stankovic returning to the side and third choice keeper Juanma coming in for his debut with Burgos still recovering from his illness and Esteban injured. The visitors got off to a good start, with Luis García and Coloccini both going close, and it was no surprise when Luis García put them in front, Ito losing the ball in the area to Contra leaving the ex Barcelona and Valladolid forward time to score.

Víctor Fernández brought on Alfonso at the break, the striker making his first appearance for four months, and within a minute he had made his mark, stabbing home an equaliser after Dani headed on Capi's cross. Betis were left with ten men soon afterwards though when Filipescu picked up a second booking, but even so they could have taken the lead, especially when Joaquín missed a sitter in front of goal. Aragonés turned to the out of favour Javi Moreno, and within a couple of minutes he played on Emerson's pass to set up Luis García for his second of the night. But five minutes from the end Joaquín made up for his earlier mistake passing in for Arzu to run on and blast an equaliser past Juanma.
