Alavés were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Mallorca and stay in the bottom three, having now gone six games without a win. Both sides noted the absence of their most creative players, Tomic and Ilie for the home side and Ibagaza for the visitors, and keepers Dutruel and Leo Franco had little work throughout the evening. The first real chance fell to Eto'o, who shot off target midway through the first half, and Iván Alonso, for once playing alongside his eternal rival Rubén Navarro, replied for the home side with an effort which brought a spectacular save out of Franco near the interval. Before too long though Mallorca decided to settle for a point which keeps them in mid-table, and apart from a header from Astudillo which brushed the post, the second half was soporific.
