Mallorca moved closer to
safety after they came from behind to beat Valladolid 2-1, their third win
against their opponents this season after knocking them out of the cup and
beating them in an earlier league match. Visiting manager Pepe Moré
drafted in Jonathan to keep tabs on Ibagaza, but the Argentine international
aggravated a back injury in the first half and had to be substituted. That
allowed the young defender to roam free, and he was in the right place to get
on the end of a Torres Gómez free kick on the stroke of half time and
head the opening goal in off the back of a defender.
Olivera could have made it
two after the restart when he hit the bar, and the local crowd started to get
on their players' backs. However Pandiani headed Riera's cross down into the
corner of the net ten minutes in to the half, and three minutes later the roles
were reversed as Riera turned in Pandiani's cross for the winner. Moré
brought on Aganzo and Caminero, but apart from an effort from Olivera which Leo
Franco saved they never really looked like getting back in the game. Mallorca
move three points above their rivals in to the top half of the table.
