Mallorca's fourth victory in a row saw them move up to seventh spot, within two points of second placed Valencia. With their confidence level at maximum, Manzano's side attacked right from the kick off, and Sanzol did well to save from Pandiani with less than a minute gone. The combination between Ibagaza and Eto'o was working to perfection, and ten minutes before the break a rapid passing move from Mallorca's own half ended with the Camerooni striker laying the ball on for Pandiani. Once again though Sanzol was there to intervene.

Javier Aguirre has given Osasuna a more attacking style, and his side started to string some moves together after the break. Puñal forced a fingertip save out of Leo Franco, and they pushed the Balearic Islanders back into their own half. With just under an hour on the clock though, a long run down the right flank by Cortés ended with the full back slipping the ball through to Eto'o, who turned and fired a low shot past the keeper. Aguirre made a double change, but a few minutes later Mallorca scored again, Novo driving the ball into the empty net after Sanzol had blocked a first effort from Riera.

The game ended with Leo Franco's fourth clean sheet in a row, and after losing their first three games Mallorca are on the verge of the European spots. Osasuna drop to seventeenth place, with the only consolation that they are just above their Basque neighbours Alavés and Athletic Bilbao, who now occupy two of the three relegation spots after the dust settled on Sunday night. Real Sociedad fans must be delighted.
