Rayo Vallecano and Alavés produced one of the day's three 2-2 draws, with the visitors coming back from behind twice to save a point. Mané was taking no risks for his opening match, and lined up with five defenders and only Iván Alonso up front. They got off to a good start, with Astudillo and Jordi Cruyff hitting the bar early on, but then found themselves behind when Julio Alvarez scored a debut goal after visiting keeper Dutruel failed to clear a cross from the left.

Cruyff felt he should have had a penalty soon afterwards, but a few minutes later his side's luck turned when Iván Alonso got on the end of the Dutchman's pass to score, referee Puentes Leira allowing the goal even though the striker appeared marginally offside.

Midway through the second half Julio Alvarez scored his second of the night from the penalty spot after Geli brought down Peragón in the second half. Mané went for broke and brought on two more forwards, Magno and Rubén Navarro, and only three minutes later Magno cut in from the right to beat Etxeberria and make it all square. After that both sides settled for the point, making sure that at least they got something from the match.
