Terrassa are the
first team to be promoted to the second division A after winning their fourth
group A match in a row, this time 1-3 at Barakaldo. It was comfortable
win, with Besora giving them the lead ten minutes before half time and Gibanel
getting a second after the break with a spectacular shot from the halfway line.
When Keko made it three from close range a few minutes later it seemed all
over. However the referee awarded a penalty to the Basques when Gallo fell
under a challenge from Monty, and Sendoa pulled one back from the spot to set
up a thrilling last ten minutes. Many fans made the long trip from
Cataluña, and the local supporters were excellent hosts, applauding
their victors off the pitch at the end. Terrassa last played in the second
division 23 years ago, and they will replace Nàstic as the
representatives from their area.
Ceuta were the only
team who could catch them, and they lost 3-1 to Hércules. Parrado
gave the team from Alicante the lead, but Jonathan had hit an equaliser midway
through the first half. Hércules scoring twice more after the break
though through Santos and a Javi Rodríguez free kick for their first
victory in the playoffs. Ceuta's Juan Ramón was sent off after picking
up a second yellow card near the end.
Real Madrid B kept
their hopes alive with a 3-1 victory over group D leaders
Almería. The locals took a two goal lead through Valdo and
Miñambres, and although Armindo pulled one back after the break, Luis
García made sure in the last minute. It may be one short though, as they
lost by a difference of three in Almería and have the head to head goal
average against them.
In the other group D game,
Pontevedra stayed level with Real Madrid B after defeating Espanyol
B 0-1. Capi got the only goal just before the break against the run of
play, with the home side doing most of the attacking. Pontevedra are two points
behind Almería, who they play in a double header over the next two
weeks. With Espanyol B failing to pick up a point to date, it is now a three
way contest for the top spot.
Getafe are close to
promotion after defeating Hospitalet 1-2 in group C, the Catalans' first
defeat on their artificial pitch all season. Barila gave the team from Madrid
the lead on the stroke of half time, and Mora added a second after the break.
However Hospitalet pulled one back from a dubious penalty, and the visitors had
to hold on with ten men for the last ten minutes when Barila got a second
booking for encroaching the area as the kick was being taken.
In the other group match
Cultural Leonesa lost 1-4 to an improving Motril. The visitors
scored twice through Ortíz and Arenaza, with Angel Luis pulling one back
before half time. Both sides had a player sent off early in the second half,
with Martín getting a second booking for the visitors and
Ibáñez being shown a red card only three minutes after coming on.
Then with the game coming to an end late substitute Masegosa scored two in
three minutes to take his side to second in the group. Motril are the only side
who can catch Getafe, but have to beat them twice in the last two games to do
so.
Compostela moved four
points clear at the top of group B after defeating Mérida
Promesas 1-0. Juanito scored for the Gallicians midway through the first
half after good work by Alvaro. The Gallicians have a good chance of returning
at the first attempt, assuming that is they are able to meet their outstanding
debts with players, who have not been paid now for several weeks. They have
until the end of July to do so, but if not then they will not be allowed to go
up. (15.06.02)
Barcelona B lost 0-1
to Valencia B and have virtually handed the group B title to Compostela.
The only goal of the game came in the sixth minute through Jandro, and the
visitors held on despite having their captain Enguix sent off in the second
half for a second bookable offence. Valencia keeper Rangel also saved a late
penalty from Jofre after a foul on David Sánchez, and only a couple of
great saves by Barça keeper Víctor Valdés stopped their
opponents from extending their lead towards the end. The FC Barcelona second
team now have to win both their remaining matches (which are by coincidence
against Compostela themselves) to win promotion. (16.06.02) |
