None of the top four clubs
won in the round of midweek matches, giving the chasing pack a chance to close
the gap. Leaders Burgos stay in top spot despite a disappointing home
draw against Jaén, who played for a quarter of the match with ten
men after Rico was sent off. Atlético Madrid had to fight to save
a point at home to Recreativo, who took the lead through Raúl
Molina in the first half of their on Tuesday night game. Correa came on in the
second half to inspire his side and set up the equaliser for Diego Alonso.
Oviedo were also held in their own stadium to a goal-less draw by
Leganés.
Salamanca took
advantage to close up on the leaders with a thrilling 2-5 victory at Poli
Ejido. The home side took the lead in the first minute through Vizcaino and
Juan Jesús levelled at two all after Zegarra and Domingo had turned the
score around. However Ejido missed a penalty after Domingo had re-established
the lead, and Díaz and Makukula added two more to send Ejido to the
bottom of the pack. Salamanca move up to fourth, ahead of Xerez who lost
1-2 at home to Albacete. Basti got both goals for the visitors, and
Cubillo pulled one back for Bernd Schuster's side in injury time.
Down at the bottom
Nástic got their first win of the season, defeating
Levante 1-0. Veteran Vizcaino came in to the side and set up the only
goal for Masnou. They draw level with Badajoz, who lost 1-0 to
Elche thanks to a late goal from Ramón. Badajoz have still only
scored one goal in seven games. Racing Santander are another side with
problems, and they remain just outside the drop zone after drawing 1-1 at home
to Eibar. Arzeno gave them the lead from the penalty spot in the first
half but then gave the ball away to Olaiz near the end for him to score.
Racing's manager Gustavo Benítez may go soon, with Marcos Alonso already
lined up to take over.
Racing Ferrol keep up
their good run and they go seventh (with a game in hand) after winning away 1-2
at Extremadura. The home side took the lead with Manuel's fifth of the
season, making him joint top scorer with Atlético's Diego Alonso.
However they went to sleep in the second half and the Gallicians snatched the
three points with goals from Emery and then Fran Nogueira in injury time.
Murcia are just behind Ferrol after a 3-1 victory over Sporting
Gijon. The goals came from Ismael, Pedro Largo and Godino for the home
side, with David Pirri replying for the Asturians. Córdoba are
level with them on points after beating Numancia 1-0. The only goal came
from a spectacular effort from Brazil's Whellinton, undoubtedly the goal of the
day. |
