Osasuna moved out of the
bottom three after defeating direct rivals Las Palmas in the El Sadar stadium.
It was an exciting match, with the visitors surprising their hosts early on
with some rapid attacks. Orlando shot disappointingly wide when presented with
buckets of space, and Cruchaga just scrambled the ball away with Alberto
charging in after Unzué failed to hold on to Pablo Lago's shot. Cruchaga
had a goal disallowed for offside at the other end, but it was a drop in the
ocean and the Canary Islanders deservedly took the lead soon after, Pablo Lago
heading across the keeper after good work down the right wing by Orlando and
Edu Alonso. Urged on by a fanatical 20,000 crowd Osasuna called on their pride,
and Iván Rosado levelled the scores in a move he started and finished,
following up after Orlando Quintana pushed out a shot from Contreras. On the
stroke of half time the Pamplona side were in front, Puñal receiving a
short free kick and shooting 'a la Koeman' into the top corner of the net.
Fernando Vázquez
pushed his men forward after the break, allowing the local side more space.
Iván Rosado however missed the chance of the game, shooting wide only a
yard out. Las Palmas defender Alvaro had started the game wearing a face mask
after breaking his nose last week, but he got another knock and had to leave
the field again groggy. Tevenet came on, and almost immediately brought a good
save out of Unzué. Then with a quarter of an hour to go referee Megia
Dávila invented a penalty out of nowhere, ruling that Cruchaga had
pulled back Tevenet, and the striker stepped up to slot home the kick. Then fans
howled for revenge, and they got their just reward five minutes later Angel and
Sarasúa failed to cut out a speculative ball in from Gancedo, Contreras
nipping in to take the ball round the young keeper to score. It takes Lotina's
side up to fifteenth, two points above their rivals who only stay above the
bottom three on goal difference. Las Palmas need a win next week in the Canary
Islands derby against bottom club Tenerife, otherwise there may be no first
division football in that part of the world next season. |
