Valladolid and Sevilla shared the points in a 1-1 draw to take both sides closer to their objective of staying in the top flight for another season. Sevilla manager Joaquín Caparrós surprised everyone leaving out his first choice strikers Moisés and Reyes after his side had gone five games without scoring a goal, bringing in Toedtli for a rare start alongside Nico Olivera. The Argentine striker didn't let his manager down though, scoring a spectacular goal in the twelfth minute, chesting down a long pass and turning Peña to fire in a shot from 30 yards out. Visiting keeper Notario had saved an early attack from Luis García, and the Valladolid forward tested the keeper twice more later in the half before his side drew level ten minutes before the break from a Fernando penalty. It was a harsh decision though by referee Pérez Lasa, Torrado being adjudged to have handled in the area when a point blank shot from Torres Gómez hit him on the arm.

Notario was called upon once again soon after the break, turning a shot round the post from youngster Baraja, brother of Valencia's Rubén, who was making his first team debut for the locals. Soon afterwards Fernando headed over the bar and Luis García shot wide again after Tote set him up with the best chance of the night. Caparrós brought on Reyes, but the youngster only managed one weak shot over the bar, and Ricardo's only work in the second half was to stop a long shot by David. Late in the game the ball hit Víctor Salas on the arm again from a Jesús cross and all eyes turned to Pérez Lasa. However this time the referee decided that he had already given one controversial decision and waved play on. Sevilla survived to pick up their second point in six matches and finally move on to the psychological barrier of 40 points, two below Valladolid but probably close enough to safety to start planning for another season with the big boys.
