Tenerife bounced back with
an impressive performance after their defeat last week, but left their
opponents Zaragoza off the hook with a 1-1 draw. Rumours had it that Pepe Mel
would be fired if his team lost again, but the visitors started strongly, with
both Marioni and Fuertes missing two or three of the easiest chances with only
a quarter of an hour gone. Zaragoza were missing the injured Toro Acuña
and lost Aguado to a pulled muscle early on, and apart from a free kick from
Aragón which keeper Aragoneses punched clear they offered nothing in
return. The Tenerife strikers though still couldn't find their way to goal, and
it took a midfielder Iván Ania to show them how to do it, heading home a
long cross from Marioni almost on the goal line.
The Zaragoza players were
booed off by their fans at half time, but it was more of the same after the
restart, Láinez keeping his side in the game with point blank saves from
Marioini and Fuertes. Costa finally brought on Galletti and Drulic on the hour
mark, the Yugoslav striker making his debut after a season long injury, and
things started to improve at last. Milosevic sent a header just wide, and then
Galletti struck the equaliser after an earlier shot was blocked. Pepe Mel
started to despair, and Zaragoza almost sneaked an undeserved victory when
Milosevic's lob just cleared the crossbar with the keeper beaten. Tenerife at
least move off the bottom spot above Real Sociedad, but they missed a good
opportunity to drag their opponents down into the relegation battle.
