Zaragoza ended their two
game losing run with a 3-2 victory over Villarreal, and they climb away from
the relegation spots for the time being. Manager Txetxu Rojo was under great
pressure from the local fans at the Romareda stadium after four defeats at
home, and he once again made several changes, bringing back keeper
Láinez and veteran forward Juanele. On the other bench, Víctor
Muñoz only had seventeen fit players available, and he called up young
keeper Iker Alvarez as cover for the injured Unanua. The visitors went close
early on when Láinez had to be at his best to save from Jorge
López, but Zaragoza took the lead when Chainho poked home a pass from
Yordi. Juanele wasted a good chance to make it two, but immediately after the
visitors claimed a penalty for a foul by Rebosio on Craioveanu, Vellisca
increased the home side's lead beating López Vallejo from a wide angle.
The local fans were still
not happy, and they continued to shout for the resignation of their manager as
Víctor pulled one back on a breakaway in the second half, and then Jorge
López made it all square when the defence failed to clear a long ball in
from the left. However Galván got himself sent off with ten minutes to
go when he brought down Vellisca in the penalty area, and with the home crowd
still baying for the head of Txetxu Rojo, Acuña stepped up to score the
winning goal. After the match club president Alfonoso Solans criticised some of
the supporters and reiterated his backing for the coach. Zaragoza move a point
ahead of their opponents, who themselves are now only four points above the
drop zone after starting the season in the upper reaches. Víctor
Muñoz is hoping to sign a striker to replace the injured Palermo soon,
with ex Barcelona veteran Pizzi the current favourite for the job.
