Mallorca and Málaga shared the points at the San Moix stadium with a goal a piece. The match was overshadowed by a serious injury to Mallorca's defender Vicente, who snapped a knee ligament in a freak accident in the fifth minute and is expected to be out of the game for a year or so. With the players still upset by the sight of the injury, Málaga almost took advantage to score, Leo Franco blocking a point blank header by Fernando Sanz. The Mallorca keeper saved twice more from Musampa before the visitors took the lead, although the goal when it came was fortunate, Novo back-heading a corner from Gerardo past his own keeper. That woke Mallorca up, and Nadal levelled the scores a few minutes later with a coolly taken goal in their best moments of the game.

The visitors came back strongly after the break though, and they thought they had scored in the second half when Canabal's header appeared to cross the line before Nadal hooked it away. However referee Undiano Mallenco ruled that it had not fully crossed the line, a decision which appeared to be incorrect in hindsight having seen the television pictures of the incident. The Balearic Island side did improve towards the end, and only a good stop by Contreras prevented Luque from scoring the winner. In the end though it was a point each, and both teams remain in the bottom half of the table.
