Athletic Bilbao came back from behind three times to share the points with a thrilling 3-3 draw at Sevilla on Saturday night. Both sides tested the water in the first half, with Lafuente turning away shots from Reyes and Gallardo early on and Yeste almost catching Notario off guard with a quickly taken free kick near half time. Reyes was causing problems for the visiting defence, and Heynckes brought on Carlos García just before half time, with Lacruz switching to right back. It didn't have the desired effect however, as Moisés scored the first for the home side with a shot which took a deflection off the substitute within four minutes of the restart. Six minutes later Etxeberria levelled the scores from a possible offside position after Urzaiz set him up, but Reyes restored the lead almost immediately with a well taken goal.

Once again Bilbao levelled though, this time from Urzaiz, who headed his ninth of the season in the league, and once again Reyes put the Andalucians in front after clever work by Moisés. Caparrós brought on a second substitute Prieto (Olivera had come on at half time), switching to three players at the back to defend the lead, but his enthusiastic young team didn't pay him much attention and continued to attack. That was their downfall, and in the fourth minute of time added on Ezquerro hooked the ball in to the net to salvage a point for the Basque side. Victories for the teams below them means that Athletic drop to fifth, but they are well placed only three points off the lead. Sevilla stay in tenth place, on target for their objective of consolidating their place in the top flight for next season.
