Tenerife climbed away from the danger zone with a narrow victory over a depleted Málaga. The visitors were missing seven players between injuries, suspensions and international duty, although Joaquín Peiró could count on Gato Romero, who was not called up by Uruguay, and Miguel Angel, who had his fifth yellow card suspended. However without Darío Silva, who was helping Uruguay qualify for the World Cup finals, Dely Valdés was left by himself for too long and Málaga paid the price.

It was an open game with several goal chances, with Xisco wasting a couple for the home side and Dely Valdés and Musampa going close for the visitors in the first half. The only goal came after the break, Iván Ania setting up Slovak for him to score his first of the season from close range. Málaga's keeper Contreras joined his club's ever growing injury list shortly afterwards, limping off to be replaced by Rafa, and his opposite number Aragoneses saved the day near the end stopping a shot from Valdés. Tenerife have now registered seven points in their last three games, and they go a point above their opponents up to fourteenth.
