Valencia maintained their
unbeaten record this season in all competitions with their sixth away draw in a
row. With many international fixtures on this week, Rafa Benítez was
forced to cobble together a side with B team defender Navarro playing in the
back four, Djukic playing in midfield alongside Albelda (who was given pain
killing injections in his injured foot), and Angulo on the left. Osasuna were
missing Australian international Aloisi, who will be out for a couple of weeks
playing for his country. It was a dull game without goals, in which the only
interesting moments were provided by referee Daudén
Ibáñez. He awarded a penalty in the first half to the visitors
and then changed his mind after talking to both linesmen, and then disallowed a
goal by Carew in the closing minutes.
Other than that the best
chances came from an Angulo deflected shot which Unzué saved in the
first half and a Juan Sánchez free kick in the second, with Osasuna
replying with a couple of efforts by Iván Rosado and a centre by Mateo
in injury time which Palop had to tip clear as the strong wind took it towards
the goal. Valencia have not lost in the league in Pamplona for fifteen years
and they drop to third, behind Barcelona on goal average. Osasuna rise to
twelfth, although with so many teams so close together, they are only two
points above eighteenth placed Tenerife. |
