Mallorca's revival proved short-lived as they fell heavily to Osasuna, who had only scored once at home in their last four matches before this one. Osasuna's manager Miguel Angel Lotina brought back Gancedo after making up with the Argentine midfielder following their war of words, and drafted in Australian striker John Aloisi for his first start of the season. It proved a good move as both got goals on the night, with Aloisi opening the scoring in the tenth minute after Iván Rosado swung the ball over on a quick break-away. Puñal added a second before half time bending the ball around the defensive wall after a short free kick, with Mallorca's only reply a good run by Eto'o which ended with a save by Unzué.

Sergio Kresic brought on Paunovic and Biagini around the hour mark, but that left them short at the back and the Basque side took advantage to add to their score, Gancedo finishing off after Leo Franco could only block Rosado's header. And in the final minutes last year's top scorer Rosado finally got his first of the season from close up after a corner. It was their best tally in eleven years in the first division, and left their opponents down in next to bottom place behind Real Sociedad after their victory at Tenerife. Kresic played it down, but he will have to make some changes to get things back on the rails.
