Coloccini. Headed wide of keeper after Pablo free kick.
Alavés moved up to
fourth place, ahead of Valencia on goal average, with a 1-0 win against Las
Palmas. With Kike failing a late fitness test, both teams lined up as they did
a week ago, Herrera once again keeping his place in the Vitoria based side's
goal. After a slow start the home side took the lead, Coloccini once again
rising above the opposition defence to head Pablo's long free kick into the top
corner of the net. It was the Argentine under 21 international's third goal in
eight days, and the club are already thinking of raising money to purchase his
15 million Euro buy out clause from AC Milan at the end of the season.
Jordi Cruyff forced a good
save out of Nacho González before the break, and second half substitute
Witschge tried a couple of shots after the restart. The visitors only created
any goal chances in the last quarter of an hour after Fernando Vázquez
brought on three fresh forwards, and Eloy put a header wide soon after coming
on. With the game in injury time Turiel blocked a shot with his arm, and the
Las Palmas players vigorously claimed a penalty. But referee Ansuategui Roca
ruled that it was accidental, and the game came to an end without further
incident. |
