Alavés and Real
Madrid drew 0-0 in a match brought forward to Saturday. With Roberto Carlos
injured and Zidane out with a stomach virus, Del Bosque lined up with youngster
Raúl Bravo at left back, and had to bring on another B team defender
Pavón for the injured Karanka before half time. The replacements fitted
in well though, and with Hierro in top form in his 450th game for Madrid and a
superb Coloccini shadowing Raúl there were little opportunities for
either side, and the first half came to a close without either keeper being
really troubled.
If anything, Madrid had the
better of the first 45 minutes, but it was Alavés who dominating after
the break, and Mané brought on strikers Vucko and Rubén Navarro
to join Iván Alonso as Madrid retreated to their own area. The closest
anyone came to scoring though was when Salgado turned the ball against his own
post late in the game, and with Savio and Morientes on for the visitors they
almost stole it in the last couple of minutes. The draw leaves Madrid down in
the bottom half of the table still looking for their first away win, with
Alavés staying just outside the top six. |
