Las Palmas won at home 2-0
against Espanyol move away from the bottom spots and in to midtable, Espanyo
manager Paco Flores was under pressure after a recent run of bad results
including getting knocked out of the Spanish cup on Wednesday, and with De
Lucas both banned and injured he decided to play his three top strikers
together for the first time, Palencia taking up a position on the left wing
behind Posse and Tamudo. It was the home side who had the better start though,
with Samways and Jayo working hard in midfield, and they were unlucky not to be
in front by the break after Orlando and Jorge both hit the bar.
Fernando Vázquez
brought on Rubén and Tevenet, and the visitors were reduced to ten men
after Ricardo Cavas picked up two yellow cards in three minutes with an hour
gone. Flores sacrificed Tamudo to bring on young left back David García,
but Las Palmas took advantage of the extra man to score through Jorge, with
Tevenet adding the second from the penalty spot after keeper Argensó
brought him down near the end. |
