Alavés moved back up to sixth in the table after a controversial victory over Málaga. The only goal of the match came in the second half from a Llorens penalty after a foul by Iznata on Vucko. Referee Rodríguez Santiago had not seen anything wrong with the challenge until his linesman signalled the foul and Málaga manager Joaquín Peiro was furious after the game about the decision. Earlier Iván Alonso had hit the post with a header, but Málaga too had their chances, with Kike saving from Zárate in the first half and Dely Valdes in the second. Both managers introduced several changes to their line ups, with Coloccini and Jordi Cruyff failing late fitness tests for the home side and Miguel Angel making his first start for the visitors.
