Deportivo took over at the top of the table, for 24 hours at least, with a thrilling 2-3 victory over Alavés on a stormy Saturday night. Sergio got the winning goal two minutes from time but their hero was ex Real Madrid and Racing veteran international Amavisca, who gave them a two goal lead with strikes in the 24th and 47th minutes, and then set up the winner for the ex Espanyol midfielder. Once again though a slip in concentration in the second half let in their opponents after Mané had thrown on two more forwards, with Alavés drawing level with goals from Llorens from a corner and then Coloccini with a header seven minutes from the end.

Referee Fernández Marín upset the local supporters sending off Iván Alonso for protesting and then disallowing a last minute goal by Geli for a dubious foul by Coloccini on Djorovic which would have saved them a point. Alavés drop out of the top spots down to seventh, two points behind their opponents and three behind leaders Celta. This was Deportivo's fourth away win in a row, and is good news for a team who have a reputation for poor performances outside of their Riazor stadium.
