Goals: 0-1. 40.
Rubén Navarro. Pulled down Geli's cross and volleyed over Sergio.
0-2. 83. Astudillo. Got on the end of Witschge free kick to squeeze ball
home.
All of the newly promoted
teams lost, with Tenerife being defeated at home by Alavés. Rubén
Navarro stepped into Javi Moreno's shoes and scored an impressive first goal
before half time, but then got himself sent off for a second yellow card ten
minutes from the end. That didn't stop Astudillo adding a second though from
Witschge's free kick near the end. The result was a blow for Tenerife, who used
four strikers during the match without success. They have apparently signed a
fifth forward Fuertes this week, and may try and strengthen their squad further
(if funds are available) with some of the cast offs from the bigger sides.
Alavés are hoping to get back in Europe this season after losing the
UEFA cup final to Liverpool, and couldn't have made a better start.
