Leaders Sevilla were held
surprisingly to a 1-1 draw at home against Elche in the only match brought
forward to Saturday night. One of the visitors new signings Parri opened the
scoring, but after Olivera had seen his penalty saved by Iñaki, he made
up for it later on with the equaliser. (11.02.01)
Betis moved above their city
rivals to go top by a point after a narrow one goal victory at Racing Ferrol.
Amato got the goal in the fifth minute. Tenerife went second on goal average
ahead of Sevilla with a 3-0 win against relegation candidates Getafe. All three
goals came in the second half, with two from Mista and a third from the
league's joint top scorer Luis García. He now has eleven goals, level
with Atlético Madrid's Salva, who scored from the penalty spot in his
team's 5-0 hammering of Jaén. Njegus got the first and the last against
the Andalucians, who ended the game with nine players.
Fourth placed Salamanca kept
in touch with the leaders and sank Lleida even further with a 2-0 victory.
Lleida, who's manager resigned midweek, are now joint bottom with Universidad
Las Palmas, who drew 2-2 against Levante. Salamanca are four points behind the
top three and four ahead of Recreativo, who beat Córdoba 1-3. Sporting
go sixth after winning 1-2 at Extremadura, new signing Manel getting the
winner. Elsewhere, Murcia came from two down in the last three minutes to draw
2-2 with Leganés, Badajoz beat struggling Compostela 2-1 and Eibar and
