Tenerife held on to their
three point lead at the top with a second half goal by Barata in their Canary
Island derby against bottom club Universidad Las Palmas. Referee Tristante
Oliva disallowed two first half goals by Barata for dubious off sides, sent off
Universidad's Olsson and Yeray either side of the goal and showed 13 cards in
all. This was Tenerife's fifth victory in a row. Sevilla won the Andalucian
derby against their city rivals Betis, coming back from behind with three
second half goals from Tevenet and two from Olivera, including a penalty after
Capi had given the home side the lead early on. Both sides ended the game with
ten men after Sevilla's Alfaro was sent off in the first half and Betis keeper
Prats followed him in the penalty incident in the second.
The win keeps Sevilla in
second place on 24 points, three behind the leaders and ahead of Córdoba
on goal average. The Andalucians beat Extremadura 2-0, with the visitors keeper
Gaspercic letting Oscar s shot through his hands for the first goal, and
Espejo adding a second in the second half. Salamanca took advantage of slip ups
by all the teams above them to jump up to fourth place thanks to a single goal
by Pinilla at the start of the second half at Racing Ferrol. They have 21
points, ahead of Jaén on goal average after they drew 0-0 with
Leganés. After 13 games Jaén have only scored eleven goals,
letting in the same number, but that is high scoring compared to Recreativo, a
point behind them in sixth place in the table. Their goal record is 9-5 after
their 1-0 win over Albacete, with Barajas scoring in the last minute. That
broke a run of four draws in a row. Levante versus Sporting and Badajoz versus
Murcia also ended in 1-1 draws, with the away teams getting late goals to
equalise.
Down at the bottom,
Atlético Madrid failed again, only managing a point against Eibar who
were playing with ten men from the 24th minute after Galdames received two
yellow cards in three minutes. Salva opened the scoring early on with a header,
but Sendoa levelled twenty minutes from time to salvage a point.
Atlético stay in seventeenth place, but only on goal average ahead of
Extremadura and Compostela, who beat Lleida 2-1, their third home win in a row.
The victory takes them four points ahead of their opponents, who stay on 10
points, one ahead of Racing Ferrol and three above the bottom team, Universidad
Las Palmas. Getafe meanwhile climbed above Atlético Madrid with a 1-4
victory against Elche, thanks to some controversial refereeing. Elche's Redondo
was sent off after half an hour for a second bookable offence when the score
was 1-1, and after Maikel got his second and Vidal added another for the
visitors, Elche were reduced to nine men after keeper César
Gálvez was sent off for bringing a Getafe player down in the penalty
area with five minutes to go, and most of the crowd left before the visitors
added the fourth from the penalty spot. |
