Osasuna and Las Palmas
shared the points in a match which will go down in the record books for the
fact that the Las Palmas goalkeeper Nacho González scored two goals, a
first in Spanish footballing history. González scored twice from the
penalty spot in a game in which referee Prados García awarded three
penalty kicks, the last of which upset Osasuna manager Miguel Angel Lotina as
the decision was to say the least dubious. With Gerardo and Alex passing late
fitness tests, Lotina only made two changes from the side that lost last week
to Osasuna, switching back to a formation with one sole striker, Iván
Rosado. Sergio Kresic gave Orlando a start after his two goals the week before,
with Angel replacing the suspended Jarni.
Rosado has been one of the
most on-form strikers in the league in the second half of the season, and he
netted his thirteenth of the season with only three minutes gone, his shot
taking a deflection off Paqui. Guayre equalised in similar fashion at the other
end though, with Jusué deflecting the ball just enough to steer it
inside the post. Las Palmas were getting the better of the match, with Josico
heading wide and Alvaro almost beating Nuno with a header. Rosado appeared to
have re-established the lead when he beat González again on the half
hour mark, but Prados incorrectly ruled the goal out for offside.
González surprised
everyone in the second half when, with regular penalty taker Jarni banned, he
stepped up to drive the ball in to the roof of the net from the spot after Alex
brought down Angel. Gerardo levelled it once again with another penalty, his
first goal for his new club, and he got his second a few minutes later with a
well placed header to put the Pamplona side back in the lead. But then Prados
pulled another spot kick out of the hat, (his thirteenth of the season), ruling
that Gerardo had pushed Ramón. González took that one too, and
Osasuna were deprived of two points. The result leaves the home side still in
eighteenth place, although the two teams below them both drew, and with Oviedo
losing and Valladolid only drawing they still have a good chance of escaping
the drop. Both teams have a difficult calendar ahead of them, and a couple of
good results could take them above one or the other. Las Palmas are up in
twelfth place, and don't have to worry about that any more. Kresic can start
planning for next season. |
