Scrambled ball into goal from close range.
An early goal from Perico
Ojeda was enough to give Numancia an important victory against relegation
rivals Osasuna. Having gone eight games without a victory this was the Soria
based side's last chance to keep their hopes of staying in the top flight
alive, and after García Remón became the second manager to be
fired at the Pajaritos this season, his erstwhile assistant Celestino Vallejo
took over for the first time. Ojeda was one of four changes which the caretaker
manager made, with Nuñez returning in goal and two players who had
featured little in Goiko and García Remón's plans, Culebras and
Pirri, coming in to the back four. Vallejo's opposite number for this match was
his old boss at Numancia, Miguel Angel Lotina, and he was confident of getting
a result having taken five points from Barcelona, Osasuna and Mallorca in their
last three games.
After Rubén Navarro
and Ojeda combined for the Argentinian to toe-poke the ball past Nuno, the game
descended into a typical relegation struggle, with neither side getting clear
chances at goal. Osasuna in fact never got a shot on target in the whole 90
minutes, with their best chance coming when Iván Rosado got free only to
see Culebras take the ball off his toe as he was preparing to shoot. Vallejo
took off his three front men in the second half, happy with the result which,
although still leaving his team at the foot of the table, keeps them in touch
with the rest. They are on 32 points, two behind Racing and three now away from
Osasuna, who drop back in to the relegation zone after the victory of Real
Sociedad. |
