Valladolid and Málaga
played out a dull score-less draw which did nobody any favours. Valladolid were
looking for a victory to move them away from the relegation spots and to take
their minds off the financial problems they are going through after the
resignation of club president Ignacio Lewin, and Málaga needed three
points to keep up their challenge on the UEFA cup qualifying spots. However the
visitors turned up missing several of their key players, with Dely
Valdés, Edgar and Agostinho injured and Roteta and Larrainzar suspended,
although De los Santos was back in midfield after missing the last two games.
Both teams appeared
frightened of losing, and each sat back waiting for the other to take the
initiative. If anything the home side had the best chances, with Pachón
wasting a couple of good opportunities and claiming a penalty when brought down
by Bravo which referee Muñiz Fernández ignored. Pepe Moré
made two changes at the break, bringing on Lozano and Kaviedes, although
neither impressed and the manager took off the Ecuadorian striker half an hour
later (much to the player's disgust) after his side were reduced to ten men
when Caminero was given a second yellow card for diving in the penalty area. It
was the veteran midfielder's ninth sending off of his career, although
Moré told the press afterwards that the club would appeal, as they
thought that the penalty claim was valid.
That virtually brought the
match to an end as Valladolid gave up any further thoughts of winning the
match. The remaining 20 minutes or so were even duller than the first seventy,
and the match ended without further incident. Valldolid have now only won once
in the last nine games, and they drop to within three points of the relegation
zone, seriously in trouble given that their last three games are against Depor,
Barça and Madrid. Málaga stay in ninth place, now four points
away from the UEFA spots. Apart from the goalkeepers, not a good day for
anyone. |
