Oviedo hung on to their
unbeaten home record by the skin of their teeth in this match, coming from
behind in the last minutes of the match to steal away three vital points.
Málaga had taken the lead twice in an action packed first half, first of
all through Darío Silva after a Dely Valdés through ball had
beaten everyone, then, after Oli had levelled the scores with his sixth of the
season, with a well struck free kick from their captain, Bravo. Radomir Antic
had thrown everything forward in the second half, bringing on a third forward
Möller, and with only a minute of ordinary time remaining, the bald head
of Onopko rose above the packed defence to head home Keita's cross. The crowd
went delirious, but there was more to come, and in the third minute of stoppage
time Tomic smashed a free kick low into the back of the net.
Málaga can be
justified to feel hard done by, especially as referee Pérez Burrull
disallowed a goal by Dely Valdés in the second half for offside. Dely
was returning to Oviedo for the first time since his summer transfer to the
Andalucian club, and the crowd gave him the Figo treatment, accusing him of
being a money grabber for leaving them. The Oviedo players didn't feel that way
though, and Esteban explained what a good chap Dely was to the local press
before the kick off. The Oviedo keeper didn't have the same sentiments though
for Dely's strike partner Darío Silva, and there was a bust up between
the two in the tunnel after the match, Esteban telling reporters afterwards
that he had been insulted throughout the game and had even received a kick from
the Uruguayan 'in his parts'.
With this win Oviedo have
taken 19 of their 20 points at home, with six victories at the Nuevo Tartiere
stadium in a row after their opening draw against Las Palmas. They are now
comfortably placed in eighth position, only two points away from Rayo Vallecano
in fourth. Their away record still needs some attention though, and they go to
play Athletic Bilbao without Keita, who picked up a fifth yellow card in this
match. Málaga drop a place to fourteenth, but are once again having a
reasonable season now that their injury problems are mainly over.
