Valladolid and Real Sociedad
met in a match which both really needed to win, the home side to restore faith
in their manager after losing 4-1 at Oviedo last week, and the visitors to
build on their 4-1 victory against Numancia to climb away from the relegation
spots. In the end it was the home side who got it, thanks to two lapses of
concentration by the Real Sociedad defence, failing to pick up their men from
corners in the first half. Their manager Pancho Ferreira had brought back
Kaviedes in attack after he scored four goals in a practise game, but the goals
came from further back as first Jesús and then García Calvo
sneaked in to get their first goals of the season.
Real manager Periko Alonso
had only made one change to his side after the victory last week, sacrificing
striker De Paula to add an extra midfielder Khokhlov, leaving Aranzábal
on the bench even though he was now fully fit. After the opening goal Real came
forward, and Bizzarri had to save from a Corino header shortly afterwards. Two
goals behind at half time, Alonso went back to last week's line up, bringing on
De Paula for Khokhlov, and the striker was to score his second goal in two
weeks with a header right at the end. Before that the San Sebastian side had
hit the post twice, through Aranburu and Corino. Valladolid's Yugoslavian
midfielder-converted-striker Dragan Ciric went off five minutes into the second
half with an injury which will keep him out for several weeks. With their
victory, his team distance themselves from their opponents moving up to
thirteenth place, with Real dropping back in to the relegation zone in
eighteenth. |
