Zaragoza appear to be back
on track after their second victory in a row and their first of the season at
home. The win was inspired by an on-form Montenegro, who is improving with
every match after joining the club in the summer. His was the first goal which
broke down the resistance of Ceballos and his defence, and he laid on a second
for Jamelli in the second half. Up to that first goal, Ceballos and his defence
had kept out the rampaging Zaragoza forwards, with Juanele in particular
creating danger with his every move. Racing Santander had no reply, and their
first real shot at goal didn't come until twenty minutes from the end, when
substitute Preciado saw his header saved by Juanmi.
Zaragoza's caretaker manager
Luis Costa kept more or less to his winning line up, his only change being the
return of Gary Sundgren after serving a one match suspension. Andoni Goikoetxea
was expected to keep an unchanged side too after his team's win last week.
However with Preciado not fully fit, Rushfeldt came back up front, with
Bestchastnykh and Txema coming back in to the starting eleven. Racing had lost
their last nine games against Zaragoza before this one, and their tenth defeat
means that they slip back down below their rivals into the relegation zone.
Zaragoza are out of it for the time being at least, rising up to fifteenth
place after being bottom only two games ago. Their search for a centre forward
continues, with Esnaider expected to sign very soon and Paraguay's Cardozo, who
plays his football in Mexico with Toluca, an alternative. On this showing
though, they may not need anyone after all. |
