Lleida moved to the top of the
second division after beating promotion rivals Córdoba with a first half
goal by Setvalls. Both teams have been creeping up the table as their opponents
fail, with Lleida winning their last five home games before this match and
Córdoba unbeaten in ten. Lleida now find themselves equal top with
Extremadura, who could only draw 0-0 at home to Tenerife. Salamanca stay third
despite going eight games in a row without a win. They also drew 0-0, against
Compostela, with new manager Basti taking over for the first time after
García Remón was fired on Sunday night. Las Palmas failed once
again to take advantage of the slip-ups by their closest rivals, and after
going ahead against Logroñes with a Jarni thunderbolt, they let them
back in the game in the second half. Las Palmas are fourth on 50 points, a
point ahead of no less then six teams on 49, Villarreal, Tenerife,
Córdoba, Levante, Osasuna and Leganés. Sporting were another team
who fired their manager, Braojos, last week, and new manager Ciriaco Cano
started well with a 0-2 victory at Levante. They move back in to the reckoning,
a point behind the pack. At the bottom, Toledo are now 10 points away from
safety after losing to Elche, and look certain to be relegated. Right now it
looks like any three from four to join them, with Recreativo on 33 points,
Compostela and Logroñes on 36 and Atlético B on 38.
Logroñes and Atlético B could go down anyway on non-sporting
grounds, with the first automatically relegated if their first team drop out of
the top division, and Logroñes close to bankruptcy.
