The match of the day was the
top of the table clash between Levante and Salamanca, which finished 2-3. The
Valencia side opened the scoring through league top scorer Salillas, but two
penalties, one scored by Munteanu and the other by Quique Martín, and
another goal in between by Munteanu, gave Salamanca an unbeatable lead, despite
a late goal by Vicente. Jarni made his debut for Las Palmas, and the Canary
Island side moved second, four points behind Salamanca, with a 0-2 victory at
struggling Recreativo. Segueiros got both goals. The two teams behind the three
leaders failed to take advantage of the slip up of Levante, with Extremadura
only drawing 0-0 at Leganés, and Sporting falling spectacularly at home
by 1-4 to bankrupt Logroñes. Villarreal moved back into contention with
a 2-0 win against Albacete, taking them level with Sporting on points. Eibar
also moved up with a one goal victory against Getafe, and two goals from Pier
helped Tenerife to a 2-1 win versus Lleida. Atlético B's run of six
victories ended, but they still shared the points with a 1-1 draw at home to
Osasuna, and Compostela beat Mérida 0-1. Elche's new manager
D'Alessandro (Solari finally turned down the job) saw his side pick up a point
in a goal-less draw against Badajoz, but they stay in second to bottom place
six and eight points respectively ahead of Recreativo and Toledo, who were
beaten 0-2 by Córdoba.
