The last round of matches in
the first half of the season proved very boring, with only two teams scoring
more than one goal, and five matches ending up in 1-1 draws, including second
placed Levante against fourth placed Las Palmas, with goals from Paqui for the
visitors and Luis López for the home side, both in the second half.
Leaders Salamanca finally pushed their luck too far. They lost to a last minute
goal from Eibar's Gorka García (who is being chased by Bilbao and Real
Sociedad), but with Levante and Las Palmas drawing and third placed Extremadura
losing 2-0 to their improving neighbours Badajoz (now sixth), they maintain a
five point lead. Fifth placed Sporting failed to take advantage of numerical
superiority as referee Pino Zamorano (could be one to watch) sent off three
Compostela players, including goalkeeper Ponk. Theirs was one of the 1-1
results, as was the match between seventh placed Tenerife and Córdoba
and the one between Getafe and Albacete. Recreativo de Huelva sank further into
next to last spot after losing 0-1 to Osasuna, and manager Del Barrio resigned,
the eighth manager to leave this season. Bottom club Toledo drew (guess what)
1-1 with Leganés to move to within two points of Recreativo. Compared to
the rest, Lleida massacred Elche 1-3 after coming back from a goal down, and
Atlético B mimicked their first team with a one goal victory at
Mérida. Villarreal's new signing from Valencia, Dennis Serban, got the
only goal against Logroñes, who sold top scorer Manel to Espanyol during
the week. All in all, a week to forget. |
