Camacho named his squad for the
two friendly matches against Brazil and Argentina next week. There
were no new caps, not even for Rayo Vallecano players, but three old
faithfuls, Abelardo, Ferrer and Alfonso come back into the squad after
a long period away from the international scenario. Camacho also
followed Ranieri's lead with his goalkeepers, replacing Atlético's
Toni with his teammate Molina. Deportivo's César drops out of
the squad. With two matches in a few days, 21 players were called up.
The squad is as follows:
Keepers: Molina (Atlético
de Madrid), César (Valladolid)
Defenders: Sergi and Abelardo
(Barcelona), Aranzábal (Real Sociedad), Michel Salgado and
Hierro (Real Madrid), Paco (Zaragoza), Ferrer (Chelsea)
Midfield: Guerrero (Athletic
Bilbao), Valerón (Atlético de Madrid), Guardiola and
Luis Enrique (Barcelona), Engonga (Mallorca), Mendieta (Valencia)
Forwards: Etxeberria and Urzaiz
(Athletic Bilbao), Munitis (Racing), Raúl and Morientes (Real
Madrid), Alfonso (Betis)
The beauty of being qualified
already is that you have plenty of time to organise for the final
phase. Spain have already booked their hotel for the championships,
the chateau Holtmühle in Tegelen, near to Eindhoven, an old 14th
century castle.
A strong squad was named for
the vital under 21 match against Norway on 13th November. Jordi Ferrón
of Rayo Vallecano was the only new cap, with many regular first
division players in the 19 man squad. The full list is as follows:
Aranzubia and Lacruz (Athletic
Bilbao), Capdevila and José Mari (Atlético), Gabri and
Xavi (Barcelona), Sergio and Velasco (Celta), De Lucas, Tamudo and
Velamazán (Espanyol), Luque (Málaga), Ferrón
(Rayo), Ismael (Racing), Casillas (Real Madrid), Marchena (Sevilla),
Albelda, Farinós and Gerard (Valencia). |
