A great start for Spain in the Confederations Cup, a 2-1 victory over South American champions Uruguay already setting them on their way to a place in the semi-finals. Del Bosque's side got off to an electrifying start, Fàbregas hitting the post and Muslera saving from Iniesta before a long shot from Pedro was deflected in to his own net by Lugano. Casillas did have to save a Cavani header, but soon afterwards a team passing move ended with Fàbregas putting Soldado through for him to beat Muslera for his team's second. The Galatasaray keeper did well to save from Piqué before the break, and Soldado and Iniesta went close after the restart. But after that the coach opted for prudence, with Javi Martínez brought on to shore up the midfield. Uruguay did eventually get one back, Luis Suárez curling an impressive free kick past Casillas with two minutes to go, but Soldado could well have added to the scoreline late on.
