Spain finished third in the Confederations Cup after beating South Africa in extra time. The hosts took the lead with twenty minutes to go when Mphela connected with Tshabalala's cross to lash a shot past Casillas. But two goals from substitute Güiza in the last four minutes turned the scoreline around. Mphela levelled the scores again though with an injury time free kick to take the game in to an extra thirty minutes, but Xabi Alonso won it for Del Bosque's side with another free kick later on. Later in the evening Brazil came from two down to beat USA and win the tournament.
