Mixed results for Spanish teams in this Thursday’s Europa League. Getafe produced one of the surprises of the night, beating last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Ajax 2-0 in the early kick-off. Deyverson put them ahead shortly before the break after Olivera played in a long ball from Arambarri, and with the game already in injury time Kenedy made it two with a shot which went in off Dest. Sevilla had some problems before finally drawing 1-1 at Cluj, Deac giving the locals the lead from the penalty spot after Koundé handled in the area on the hour mark, but De Jong setting up En-Nesyri to level the scores late on. It was the first goal that the Romanian side had let-in at home in ten matches. Espanyol though are all but mathematically out of the competition after they lost 4-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers later in the evening, Diego Jota helping himself to a hat-trick and Ruben Neves firing one past Andrés Prieto in between. The second legs will take place next week. (20.02.20)
