Betis were already sure of their place in the knock-out stage coming in to their game at Dudelange, but a 0-0 draw on an icy pitch was enough to ensure them top spot in their group Local keeper Bonnefoi was called on to make a string of saves, especially from a couple of shots by Loren, a Joaquín free kick, and a Javi García header near the end. The Luxembourg side hardly troubled Joel all night, but they were still happy to pick up what was their first ever point at the league stage. It was not the result Betis expected, but AC Milan’s surprise defeat at Olympiacos, which dumped the Italians out of the competition, meant that the Andalusians still finished in first place.
