As luck would have it, Spain’s two survivors in the Europa League were paired together, Valencia getting the edge over their neighbours Villarreal after a 1-3 win in the first leg. The Ches were awarded an early penalty after Cáseres tripped Guedes in the area, and although Andrés Fernández saved Parejo’s spot kick, Guedes nipped in to score from the rebound. The locals made it all square before the break however, Cazorla converting a second penalty after Garay brought down Iborra. Neto had to save from Moreno and Chukwueze either side of the break but, with a draw seemingly on the cards, the visitors scored twice in injury time through Wass and Guedes to virtually ensure their place in the semi-finals.
