For the fourth time in an under 17 World Cup final, Spain fell at the final hurdle! Although they lost to Brazil in their opening group game, Santi Denia’s side had won every game after that, beating Mali at the semi-final stage to reach the final. As it happened their opponents in Kolkata were England, the team they beat on penalties to take the European championship a few months ago. Two goals in the first half hour from Barcelona’s Sergio Gómez appeared to have put them on track for another victory, but tournament top scorer Brewster got one back on the stroke of half time, and after the restart England ran away with it, Foden scoring twice and Gibbs and Guehi also on the scoresheet.
